1	Pope Leo XIV		17,326,227		Habemus papam! #11 ended with a welcome surprise: the first #7 from the United States (he's also been a Peruvian citizen since 2015), who also is the first Augustinian pontiff to follow how his predecessor was the first Jesuit pontiff. Robert Francis Prevost was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, a Villanova University graduate, Bishop of Chiclayo, Peru, Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, President of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, Cardinal Bishop of Albano, and a lifelong fan of the Chicago White Sox.
2	Thunderbolts*		2,422,210		The latest Marvel Cinematic Universe offering, featuring a bunch of misfits trying to evade their former contractor who decided to kill them off, had positive responses from both critics and audiences, and quickly became the fifth highest-grossing movie of 2025, racking up $272 million. Yes, the asterisk is there for a reason, even if Marvel somehow decided to spoil it by changing some publicity and websites to a new title that only appears in the closing scene.
3	Pope Francis		2,158,492		The late Argentine #7 would be happy to have found out his successor (#1) has pledged to continue his groundbreaking church reforms and emphasis on serving the poor and marginalized. And as an aside concerning this list, in the early days of the Top 25 Report in 2013, redirects or renamed pages weren't counted together. Hence, unlike how this week all the views for "Robert Francis Prevost" were counted as part of "Pope Leo XIV", back in the last conclave result instead "Pope Francis" and "Jorge Mario Bergoglio" had separate entries that were #2 and #3 to a Google Doodle-boosted Douglas Adams.
4	List of popes		1,516,409		#1 is the 267th leader of the Catholic Church, and this page lists all his predecessors. Some interesting names come up, such as Hilarius, Simplicius, and even Lando! 5	Pope Leo XIII		1,489,575		The previous #7 to have a leonine papal name was the first of the 20th century, reigning from 1878 to 1903, and #1 chose to homage him because he developed Catholic social teaching. Leo XIII was also known for his social justice concerns, particularly regarding worker rights.
6	Sinners (2025 film)		1,376,677		A brief break from all the holiness and saint-related stuff on this Report by returning to the movies, with the one that #2 surpassed at the box office. The film features twin brothers Michael B. Jordan and "Michael C. Jordan" — before you ask, his (or "their"?) father is A. Jordan, and that Michael Jordan is J. Jordan – returning to their Mississippi hometown and being confronted by a supernatural evil.
7	Pope		1,294,299		#1 was chosen to be the Bishop of Rome, chief of state of the Vatican, and leader of the Catholic Church.
8	2025 India–Pakistan conflict		1,242,909		For four days, the South Asian neighbors with a history of armed disputes (#12) launched missiles and drones at each other, and there was even a fighter jet battle, but no mobilization of ground troops by the time the two Director Generals of Military Operations talked to each other and eventually agreed on a ceasefire. In spite of accusations of breaking the truce (just like during the conflict both sides said the other started aiming at civilian targets), things thankfully haven't flared up again.
9	Pope Benedict XVI		1,205,310		The other two #7's of the 21st century, the Pole who was one of the longest lasting from 1978 until his death in 2005, and his German successor who resigned for health concerns in 2013, opening up for #3's emergence and remaining as pope emeritus until dying in 2022.

11	2025 papal conclave		1,166,426		Like the two previous cardinal elections that chose #9 and #3, this only lasted for two days. And thankfully without outside violence interfering like in #16 and Angels & Demons.
12	Indo-Pakistani wars and conflicts		985,421		Ever since the release from the British in 1947, the neighbor countries have been in many skirmishes, mostly involving Kashmir. Four were considered wars, and #8 - the culmination of a diplomatic crisis and armed skirmishes along the Line of Control that followed a terrorist attack in India (#23), which Pakistani armed group The Resistance Front claimed responsibility for - didn't escalate enough to reach that.

15	Pope John Paul I		813,371		The last Italian cardinal to be #7, elected in 1978, naming himself after his two predecessors John XXIII and Paul VI, and dying mysteriously after only 33 days as Pope, inspiring a host of conspiracy theories and a subplot in The Godfather Part III. His successor at #10 chose the same name and lasted much longer.
16	Conclave (film)		779,666		While having a fierce competition with Anora and The Brutalist in the awards circuit, this acclaimed movie where Ralph Fiennes plays a cardinal overseeing a new papal election (#24) wound up becoming timely once #3 was hospitalized in February, and by the time His Holiness died huge streaming numbers ensued for Conclave on Prime Video to prepare for #11. And at the risk of revealing some spoilers, perhaps the movie's twist ending inspired this ignorance regarding #1?
17	Andor (TV series)		770,241		The week started with Star Wars Day (May the Fourth be with You), and while the limited re-release of Revenge of the Sith wasn't in theaters new content was available in the show concerning one of the leads of Rogue One, that releases 3 episodes every Tuesday.
18	Cinco de Mayo		649,449		The annual global celebrations of Mexico's 1862 victory over the Second French Empire in the Battle of Puebla were not held in a few US cities, due to fears that the events could be targeted for raids by ICE agents acting upon President Trump's immigration policies.
19	Order of Saint Augustine		646,503		#1 is the first pope to hail from this religious order.
20	2025 Australian federal election		645,269		As counting continues one week on from the election, more seats in the House of Representatives have been declared. The incumbent Labor Party led by prime minister Anthony Albanese is sitting on a comfortable 93 out of 150 seats. The Coalition has 41 seats, and one of its partners, the Liberal Party of Australia, will have to elect a new leader from its depleted ranks. The Greens is reduced to one seat, down from four, and will also have to elect a new leader. Eleven seats are won by smaller parties and independents, and four seats remain too close to call. In the Australian Senate, Labor is set to pick up seats from the Coalition, and will be able to pass legislation with support from the Greens, without having to rely on the Coalition or other parties and independents.
21	The Four Seasons (TV series)		619,531		Netflix released a comedy drama show based on a 1981 movie, concerning 3 married couples during their getaways, each lasting two episodes and one of the seasons of the year. The series has already been renewed.

23	2025 Pahalgam attack		563,353		#8's starting point happened on April 22, as five terrorists attacked Hindu tourists near Pahalgam, a popular travel area in India, leading to 26 deaths and 20 others injured.
24	Papal conclave		561,897		American sports fans joked that #1 ended up as a "Cardinals pick" in spite of being a White Sox (and presumably Bears) fan. The current format started after a papal election lasting 3 years, with its host city cutting the cardinals' food supplies and removing the roof of their building to stimulate them into getting a result, and at least the latest ones that chose #15, #10, #9, #3 and #1 were more succint, lasting at most 3 days.
