Wikipedia:WikiProject Women artists

This is a WikiProject, an area for focused collaboration among Wikipedians. New participants are welcome; please feel free to participate!

Welcome to WikiProject Women artists, a WikiProject dedicated to ensuring quality and coverage of biographies of women artists and their works. This is to help solve the systemic bias against women artists in Wikipedia. Women artists comprise visual and performance artists. This project was inspired by WikiProject Women scientists. See also Wikipedia:WikiProject Women writers, which includes works by women writers, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Dance, which includes women dancers and choreographers. Actresses and women musicians and their works seem to be well-covered at Wikipedia:WikiProject Musicians and Wikipedia:WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers, except for films which pass the Bechdel test, which should be added to this project. Any problems about women in any of these categories can be discussed on the talk page.

Scope

This project focuses on creative professionals - and their works - who create:

Visual arts (e.g. painting, sculpture, photography, filmmaking, design)
Video art
Installation art
Performance art
Experimental film
Textile arts
Architecture
Book art
Printmaking
Illustrators
Engravers
Craftmakers (basketry, pottery, textiles, etc.)

We are also happy to welcome women arts patrons and art collectors.

Besides biographies, lists of works by women artists and articles about individual works of art by these women also fall under the scope of this project.

Related Projects

Since biographies are potentially under the purview of almost all WikiProjects, it is important that we work in tandem with these projects. Also, when seeking collaboration on articles, don't neglect to approach WikiProjects that are part of the geographical region your subject is/was in.

How you can help

Tag the talk pages of relevant articles with the {{WikiProject Women artists}} banner so they can be automatically added to Category:WikiProject Women artists articles. See the Assessment page for further information.
Improve categorization of articles (see the category tree).
Consider improving one of the many stubs in this project, especially those visible in the list of WP:WikiProject Women artists/Popular pages.
Add a resource to the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Women_artists/Reliable sources for women artists.
Look at the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Women_artists/Worklist for inspiration.
Look up your favorite artist on Wikipedia and do the three-way check
Choose someone (or pick someone from the list of notable women without articles) and write an article about her.
Create a "list of works" for notable artists so that others can be inspired to write articles about individual artworks.
Help investigate these articles tagged for notability. Keep or delete? Help prove notability, or nominate them for deletion if needed.
Help tidy the Requested articles Page, by moving Names to completed Status.
