Welcome to WikiProject Women in Red (WiR)!
Our objective is to turn red links into blue ones. Our project's scope is women's representation on all language Wikipedias (biographies, women's works, women's issues, broadly construed). Did you know that, according to Humaniki, only 19.87% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women? Not impressed? Content gender gap is a form of systemic bias, and this is what WiR addresses. We invite you to participate, whenever you like, in whatever way suits you and your schedule. Editors of all genders are equally and warmly welcome at Women in Red!

From October to December 2021, we are holding the fifth of our three-month virtual contests each devoted to women from one of the continents of the world. Following the Women in Asia contest (Oct-Dec 2020); Women in Africa contest (Jan-Mar 2021); Women in Europe contest (Apr-Jun 2021); and the Women in Latin America contest (Jul-Sep 2021), we are continuing with Oceania.

The prizes will be virtual in the form of recognition of the top three contributors for each of the three months, with special recognition for the top contributor over the full three-month period.

In line with other Wikipedia contests, articles must have at least 160 words or 1,000 characters of running text (excluding references, lists, boxes and headings) and should have at least two reliable secondary references. While we encourage the creation of women's biographies, articles addressing the works or achievements of women of Oceania will also qualify. Articles which are not long enough can be listed separately but will not be taken into account for the contest.

In order to participate, contributors must be members of Women in Red. Anyone can register as a member by using the box on the main WiR page.

Please use this article's talk page if you need assistance or wish to comment on the contest.

We hope both inexperienced and seasoned editors will join us in creating biographies of the many past and present notable women from Oceania, whatever their occupation or role. While our top priority is new biographies, articles about the works, organizations or achievements of Oceanic women are also welcome.

The main goals of the event are:

    • to extend coverage of Oceania women on the English Wikipedia
    • to encourage inexperienced editors and show them how they can contribute to Wikipedia by creating biographies of prominent women
    • to draw the attention of more experienced editors to the need for concerted action on this specific area
    • to support Wikipedia in combating the systemic bias against the coverage of women and women's works
    • to promote new articles and images through social media (Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, other)

    What else?

    • Below, you'll see a section where you can list the articles you create each month of the contest, and another section where you can add the images you have uploaded to Commons.
    • This essay on creating women's biographies and our Ten Simple Rules might be helpful.
