El nombre Nazareno fue adoptado por un grupo de pintores del Romanticismo alemán, nacidos en torno a 1785. A este estilo de principios del siglo XIX también se le conoce como Purismo nazareno. Es el grupo pictórico más coherente del romanticismo alemán; pretendían revivir la honradez y espiritualidad del arte cristiano medieval.
