En français, les Grecs ou Hellènes sont :

selon la constitution grecque, le droit du sol et le droit international, les citoyens de la Grèce et eux seuls, quelles que soient leurs langues, origines et traditions culturelles^[23] ;
selon la définition ethnique, le droit du sang et l'appartenance linguistique et culturelle, le groupe ethnique héllénique qui s'auto-désigne en grec comme Έλληνες soit ’Éllines, et qui vit principalement en Grèce, à Chypre, au sud de l'Albanie, en Italie et dans la diaspora^[24].

Il est donc difficile de chiffrer l’effectif des minorités ethniques de Grèce, car aucun recensement linguistique n’a été fait depuis 1951.
