Pandemi COVID-19 telah memberikan dampak yang signifikan terhadap industri penerbangan akibat pemberlakuan pembatasan perjalanan dan menurunnya jumlah penumpang. Penurunan jumlah penumpang berakibat pada pembatalan penerbangan sehingga banyak maskapai penerbangan terpaksa melakukan PHK besar-besaran atau bahkan bangkrut. Beberapa maskapai lainnya tidak mengembalikan dana tiket yang dibatalkan untuk mengurangi kerugian. Produsen pesawat terbang dan operator bandara juga dilaporkan melakukan PHK terhadap para pegawainya.
