Ibn Ghurab was able to combine the functions of Arbab al-Aqlam (masters of the pen) and Arbab al-Syouf (masters of swords). He played a role in controlling the effects of the famine that struck Egypt (during the era of Sultan an-Nasir Faraj) by distributing bread, clothing and food, and spending money in charitable ways.[1][2][3]
