The seizure of Donetsk by separatists took place during April 2014 in an early phase of the war in Donbass. As a result, Donetsk came under the control of the Donetsk People's Republic and became its capital. As well as numerous acts of sabotage, the city suffered significant destruction, and a large number of residents were forced to leave.^[1][2]
