San Diego State University (SDSU) is a public research university in San Diego, California. Founded in 1897 as San Diego Normal School, it is the third-oldest university and southernmost in the 23-member California State University (CSU) system. San Diego State University offers students bachelor’s degrees in 97 areas, master’s degrees in 84 fields, and 21 doctoral degrees.

The university is composed of eight distinct colleges: The College of Arts and Letters, Fowler College of Business, College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Health and Human Services, College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts, College of Sciences, and the College of Graduate Studies; the university also includes the Weber Honors College.

San Diego State University is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.[8] It is classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity".[9] The university has a total undergraduate enrollment of 32,896 (Fall 2023). The San Diego State Aztecs compete in NCAA Division I (FBS for football), as a member of the Mountain West Conference.
