Where I've been

Hello and welcome to my userpage. My main contributions are on elections and referendums, largely focusing on countries outside the main anglosphere (as there are already enough editors covering those countries). I also do bits and pieces on political parties, politicians and football. As of early 2024, I had added around 7,700 articles to Wikipedia, of which around 3,700 are on elections or referendums, 1,400 on politicians, 1,100 on political parties, 720 on places, 300 on football, 300 on other politics, plus others on random topics like Eakabarere or Ulai Otobed. I edit Wikipedia because I think everyone should be able to access the accumulated knowledge of humanity, and because I am interested in the topics themselves and enjoy the research and reading required to write the articles. I am very thankful for the existence of the British Library, in which I have probably spent thousands of hours, and should also note my thanks to Wikimedia UK, who provided me with a grant to purchase Elections in Europe: A data handbook, which allowed me to create or improve over a thousand articles.

As well as article creation, some of the more satisfying things I've managed to do on Wikipedia include:

• Creating List of the first female members of parliament by country and writing several hundred of the linked biographies.
• Creating updater templates like {{Israel populations}} or {{English football updater}} that allow thousands of articles be updated in a single edit.
• Starting the RfC that led to election article titles changing from "Niuean general election, 2005" to "2005 Niuean general election". This led to over 35,000 articles being moved after the RfC passed (thankfully via a bot).
• (Sort of) figuring out how to use Lua to expand the {{Election results}} template created by Ythlev to cover all types of elections (a huge thanks should also go to Frietjes who helped on multiple occasions when I was stuck).
• Adding the embedding function to {{Infobox election}} and {{Infobox legislative election}} that allows infobox stacking (like this).
• Completing various article sets – mostly full sets of national election articles, but also things like signatories of the Israeli declaration of independence, all people to have been a member of the Knesset or government minister in Israel, all registered places in Israel, all grounds to have hosted Football League matches etc.
